My name is Elizabeth Ndung'u.I am 22years old. I am an only child.I lost my mother when I was four years. Since then I was brought up single-handedly by late father. Unfortunately, I lost my father last year(in August) while I was still in University; that makes me an orphan.Upon the death of my father I dropped out of school due to lack of school fees. I had to find a way to support myself. At the University I pursued BSc. in Medical Laboratory Science and I was in my fourth year. I have been out of school for two semesters now. I took up manual jobs so as to stand on my feet; so that am able to pay for my school fees and for my upkeep . From the money I got from the manual jobs I took up I saved little by little and I was able to purchase a second hand microscope which I needed to set up a Lab in Dagoretti area where I reside. I spend most of my time volunteering in children homes where I can meet other orphans and encourage them. I also love reading autobiographies and watching christian movies.
My lab is at the infant level( barely a month) which requires a lot of attention and financial support. At the moment I run only three tests ie WIDAL TEST for Salmonella typhi, Urinalysis, and Stool Analysis.
In the lab I mainly deal with Diagnostic treatment. I chose this kind of business because it gives me delight to serve my community with the skills and knowledge I have acquired in the diagnostic aspect of treating patients, and as we all know a healthy people leads to a healthy nation. The profits that I will reap from this business, I plan to pay for my school fees for the remaining part and reinvest in the growth and further expansion of this business to the service of my community. I have invested KES 35000. I purchased the microscope at KES 15000, rented a room under a host hospital at KES 5000 and bought reagents at KES 10000.
With KES 9034, I will purchase a glucometer which goes for KES 5000($56). with the remaining KES 4000($44) I will purchase pregnancy tests kits and this will enable my laboratory to grow as I will be in a position to offer more tests to my community to ensure a healthy community, which will translate to healthy people and therefore a healthy nation. I expect my profits to increase double.
