About Me

About me
I am Alex Gitaka, Kenyan living in Kinangop, Nyandarua County. I am a second born in a family of eight (8). I completed my secondary education and did not join college due to lack of finances since my parents were unable to raise my college fees due to economic problems.
My parents live in a five acre piece of land which they depend on mainly crop and livestock farming, therefore, after my secondary education and other siblings behind me to raise to cater for their education, health and other basic needs, they were unable to take me to college hence I had to assist them in farming and support them raise other children behind me.
I am married with two children hence was given 3/4 acre piece of land to rely on which I utilized it in crop farming. But due to it being a small portion of land it did not help me much since it was most for domestic use.
After two years of struggle with crop farming my parents donated a heifer to raise and with time it grew up, matured and produced a calf and I started to engage in livestock farming mainly dairy farming which I started to sell milk, since the market is readily available on daily basis and prompt payment after sales every month.

My Business

My business is livestock farming of which I started four (4) years ago whereby I have two (2) dairy freshian cows and three calves. The two dairy cows are able to produce atleast 25 liters of milk or more daily through proper feeding, a total of 750 liters per month @ $0.45 a liter a total of $340 per month.
In our locality, dairy farming is a promising business since there is ready market and prompt payment on monthly basis.
The area has plenty amount of rainfall since its is in the highlands at the floor of Aberdare ranges next to Aberdare National park hence favorable climate for animal and vegetation growth.
I enjoy my livestock farming business since I spend about $150 a month on buying animal feeds, acaricides, deworming and labour and get about $340 per month a profit of atleast $200 per month.
I use 50% of my profit to educate and raise my children as well as supporting my other siblings and parents, 30% to maintain and improve my business and the rest which is 20% as my savings.
