I was born and raised in Ndiebene Gandiol. I am married and mother six children, three boys and three girls and I am from Wolof ethnicity. I have six brothers and four sisters. I do not have any education because at the time our parents did not want their children to go to school. I got married in my village. When I was a little girl I used to do gardening with my mother. I got married a few years later that is when I started the henhouse with the help of my husband. We started with 10 chickens that we fed thanks to the money earned from the harvest.
Now I have a large henhouse with about fifty chickens. People from my village buy my chickens. My husband built a hutch to develop my business but a lack of means keep me from expanding my client pool to other villages. I am the only one who has a henhouse in the village but I cannot meet the needs of my clients. Costs are enormous because of expensive bags of food that I buy every 2 months. I can make 50% profit but with the loan I could make up to 80% profit. Apart from the food I have no other expenses.
The loan from Zidisha will be used for my poultry project. I will buy day-old chicks, food, and vaccines for poultry. I plan to purchase 1500 day-old chicks, 10 bags of food and vaccines for 50 000 FCFA and the loan from Zidisha will give me the opportunity to double the profits and repay the loan and have a net equity for my business.
