I grew up in a christian family my father was the pastor of Kenya Assemblies Of God Nakuru Kenya growing up as a pastors child was a bit challenging and honestly i didnt like it then because everyone expected us to behave in a certain way like we live in heaven with the angles for instance I was expected to dress up in long dresses which I didn't like any time I dressed in trousers or a short dress people would point fingers and say look at the pastors daughter this was not good at all, i went to school here in nakuru did my Olevels in nakuru too but went to nairobi for my diploma course in Housekeeping, just after my collage i got married though this was not what i wanted for myself but because i got pregnant i decided to get married and for 15 years of my life i was a stay at home mum and because i loved my housekeeping carrier so much i thought of ways of how i could go back to my passionate carrier and by the grace of God i bounced back.
I started my business in 2010 i have 22 rooms where guest check inn for bed and breakfast my business is situated in Nakuru town just 1km from the great Lake Nakuru, Sleepway Cottages as they are known have small dinning area where guest have there breakfast there, our rooms are big and spacious and our prices are quite affordable we charge USD15 for bnb and USD12 for bed only, i get 10-15 guests everyday i love my work it has made me be who i am today. I was passionate about hosting guests and making them comfortable while back at home and i said to myself when i grow up i would like to be a housekeeper and this is how i started my carrier i went to collage for housekeeping course and in 1998 i graduated. I use my profit in improving my business buying repairing and maintaining my business, i save alot and this has helped me to pay school fees for my children, i live in my own house and my business has helped me to buy new furniture in my house and a vehicle that i use in running my day to day errands.
My cottages are growing very fast and this is a good thing to me, when I started I was a bit skeptical and I didnt want to serve any meals I just wanted to offer bed only and that's it, but due to my customers demand they requested for some meals or bed and breakfast, I started offering breakfast and now I want to venture in to full board and half board, so the loan that I am requesting from Zidisha will go into purchasing some kitchen appliances like a Microwave which is very essential in any restaurant and it goes for USD60 and afour bunnner cooker for USD240 and a gas cylinders which ranges from USD70 to USD 80 depending on the KGS you want.
This will be of great beffit to me and my business as a whole, you can see from the microwave we will have an easy way of warming food instead of getting the food back to the pot and lifting up the fire, the four bunker cooker will help save a lot of time and at least more than one meal can be prepared on it and not waiting for one meal at at a time, I am looking at saving time.
This is the most interesting part, my meals go for USD 3 to the most expensive one which is USD 4 since I know have a full time running restaurant in a day since my restaurant is still new we serve like 20 people in a daythey eat a minimum of USD3, I make more than USD 60 in a day not to mention drinks and beverages after removing all the expenditures I bank I clean USD 40 which is my profit, I can just imagine what will happen when I purshace the microwave and a bunner mmh! Since we use a charcoal bunner to cook and and warm our food.it will increase my profit from 25%- 40%.
