I am a 22-year old businessman. I just finished my fourth form in 2013 and was unable to raise money to join college, so I went for private motorcycle ridding classes and passed the tests. I was given a motorcycle by my uncle to do my own bodaboda (motorcycle transport) business .
I have done the business for 1 year now. I also enrolled for part-time classes at Kenya College of Accountancy where I am taking a CPA 1 course.
The unique thing about the land and culture where i come from is that the land is fertile and has a lot of fish we get from the lake. My hobbies are singing, travelling, reading and making friends.
I offer bodaboda services (transporting passengers on motorcycle) within Kisumu town in Manyatta estate.
The reasons why customers prefer my services are that I go to work very early, my prices are flexible, and I give my customers protective gears (which helps in case of an accident) which my competitors do not provide. This attracts more customers as compared to others.
At the moment, the challenge I am facing is a lack of enough money to service my motorbike and pay my college fee. I make about 7 US dollars per day. I also have a future plan of buying a new motorcycle, because the one I was given is a bit old so I spend a lot on servicing it.
If granted a loan by Zidisha, I will be able to make about 10 US Dollars per day because the bike will be well serviced, leaving me with good profit to repay the Zidisha loan and also save money.
