My name is Caroline Kawira Mutuma. I was born in Meru county in upper eastern Kenya to parents who were both teachers. They strived to take us to good schools and we were able to pursue our education together with my siblings to the university level. I did a degree in Nutrition and had resolved to immediately embark on business after gradution. I saved money during my time at the university and topped it up with some I borrowed from my parents and started my pastry business. I opened a small outleg where I majorly bake cakes for birthdays, weddings and other events. My little girl seems to follow in my footsteps when she grows up. She is such a foodie. I loving cooking in my free time
My business involves baking cakes for clients to celebrate anniverseries in their lifes and other events like weddings. I also bakes usual cakes for walk in clients who dont mind a bite any time. Kenya have a cake culture and no event goes down without cakes therefore there is a high demand for cakes. I ussually sell out. I generate revenue by selling them. I chose this business because iI always loved cakes. My typlical costs iclude buying my recipes, maintenance costs, rent and paying staff. I save most of my profits after settling my utility bills and plan to expand in the near future.
I am saving toward buying a new oven to to bake more cakes. A new oven will allow me hire an extra person and possibly double my sales and revenue. A new oven costs 100Usd in Kenya. On acquisition I hope my rprofits will increase by 50%.
