My name is Naomi Muiruri, born in Nakuru county in a family of six where I am the second born. My parents are small scale farmers and it is this activity that they used to raise us. I attended primary and secondary school there and later relocated to Mombasa to live with my cousin and also to look for a job. Getting a job without vocational training was not easy and but I finally got a job as a hotel waiter.
With savings from my earnings, I enrolled for a short course in computer packages. Through further savings, I managed to open a business that deals with selling mobile phone accessories. I am currently doing a course in Business Management on part-time basis.
I am a hardworking person and I believe in earning from my sweat.
My business deals with sale of mobile phone accessories. I started this business a few years ago when I noticed there is a high demand for these items. The products I sell include phone batteries, covers, earphones etc. This items range from $1 to as high as $10.
Due to their cheap prices, these items move very fast and I keep replenishing my stock. My main clients are young adults and school students.
I make a net profit of about $ 200 per month. I use this money to pay for my education and to support my now aging parents back home. My desire is to expand the business and start selling mobile phones for more income.
With this loan, I am hoping to get into the lucrative market of selling mobile phones. In urban Kenya everyone uses mobile phones for communication and for mobile money transfer. For this reason, the demand for these gadgets is very high. The only impediment is the getting capital to buy this stock. I am glad that I now have Zidisha and if given this loan, I will use it to buy a dozen basic phones which I hope to sell as I make a debut in this field.
I am already well established in the field of mobile accessories and it will not take much effort to sell the phones. I am hoping that this will boost my income by not less than 30%.
