My name is Jane Wachu – born in Nyeri County in Central Kenya. I was born in a big family of 9 and I am the 3rd born. I come from an agriculturally rich region where the main activity is coffee farming.
My parents like most people in the area practised coffee farming and it is from this activity that they raised us up.
It was a hard life because the income was not enough to cater for even the basic needs of the family and we endured lack of many necessities. In spite of the odds, my parents took me to school for my primary and secondary school and I will forever be grateful to them for this.
I managed to get a clerical job at a local health center but the pay was very poor and I quit after a few months. I decided to relocate to Mombasa to live with a friend at the same time trying to get a job for my sustenance. While living there, I enrolled for a short computer course which took me about 6 months to complete.
I am very sound spiritually and I do evangelism work when time allows. I am married with a 3 year old son.
After my studies and with the help of my friend, I bought a second hand computer to further sharpen my IT skills. My neighbors got very excited at the sight of a computer because many of them had not used or even seen one before. I saw an opportunity of making some money by offering very basic computer training to this crowd. I lived in an area that is economically depressed and I could only charge the students some minimal amounts.
With serious savings and dedication, I bought a second computer after one year to cater for the growing number of students. I can handle about 10 students in a day using my two computers and this gives me a net income of about $200 per month. While this is a modest amount, the future is bright and I believe I can double this income if I get more machines.
I used the last loan to acquire a bigger space for my ICT training business. I managed to do this and now my learners are more comfortable because of the spacious environment. I still have a small unutilized space and I want to use it to start a clothes selling business. I want to start with selling ladies clothes and accessories. I will employ one person to actualize this venture.
With this money, I will use USD 50 so set up the place and the remaining balance to buy a dozen blouses, half a dozen bags and a few other accessories. I hope to leverage on my existing business and network to grow this new venture.
Thank you for reading my proposal.
