I am Jackline Kerich born and brought up in Nakuru county. Due to financial constraints of my parents I could not continue with my college education, thus I sought to do tailoring as it was my passion to be a tailor. I did my course in Kisumu and that is where I got to learn more about tailoring.
I am married with 3 children, my firstborn is in Std 5, 2 and nursery respectively. My main work is normally to make curtains, loose covers majorly because I get orders from churches, individuals and sometimes schools. Rarely do I make clothes because I am normally engaged on the curtains.
Making of internal decorations has really earned me good money. I have been able to assist my husband in paying of school fees for our children and other family expenses. My passion towards this work has seen me prosper from one step to another, currently I have been able to rent a business room in my nearby centre and one amazing thing is that customers come from far to my shop. I have two sewing machine with one trainee. I plan to have another machine and hire one person whom I will be living in the shop as I go out(sometimes looking for the material and other accessories).
I normally make a profit of Ksh. 2000-2500 in a busy week thus brings to around Ksh. 48,000 less expenses of about ksh. 25,000. I normally assist my church members especially the needy in one way or the other and this has even boosted my business. The other profit I use to reinvest in my business.
The amount I will get will be used to purchase a new machine. A good Singer machine costs Ksh. 15800 thus I will use my savings to add on what I will get to buy it. Buying a new machine will boost my business as my work will be done efficiently. I expect to get more than what I get now although I will have to pay for one worker. I will make sure I get a lot of orders so that I maximize my profits.
