I am Elizabeth Ruto born in 1967 in Rongai . I am married to one husband and blessed with 5 children .I have 2 girls who are schooling in Kapkoiga girls secondary school . Joan Ruto will be sitting for her KCSE(Kenya certificate of secondary education) this year while Gladys is in form two.
Vivian is my third born and is schooling in Samge boarding school. She is in standard six. Benjamin and Amos are day scholars at Kanga primary and my desire is that I would like them to join Boarding school since education is the only key to success.
My business involves making new clothes such as skirt suits, school uniforms and wedding cloths .I also mend the worn out clothes.I started my tailoring shop at Waka centre in 2004. The business was running smoothly until 2007 when diminished due to post election violence. It was affected by conflicts because the enterprise is located in an area where the Kikuyu and Kalenjins live and the conflicts was between them. I closed down the business until there was peace in 2009.
My main purposes of running this business is to ; enable me to pay my children’s school fees, earn more capital for the continuation of my business and without forgetting orphans and widows whom I help by making and paying for their clothes at my society since they are human like us and they are ours.
Very many customers come to my tailoring shop because I handle them politely and with a lot of curtsey . In addition to this they like me because I mend them the clothes that fit them and fulfill their demands .
People from near and far come to my enterprise to view the displayed patters as they also demand for the customer` s book for more details .I also iron their clothes and ensure they are as sixpence.
If given the loan; I will invent more for my business, buy 2 new sewing machines and employ the jobless so as to earn their living .The major challenges that I face in my business is that customers fail to come for their clothes after they are mend and stiff competition from other cloth makers. Customers may fail to collect their clothes because of their dependences on agricultural activities. Due to adverse environment changes they fail to come for their clothes because they depend on agriculture and when the season is good they collect in time without problems . The stiff completion is due to many tailors in the area but I am able to run well with competition, because my customers like me and my job.
Lastly and not least I appreciate and love my job because it has uplifted my living standards from where I was to where I am whereby I am able to sustain my family and even lend a hand to the less fortunate in our society , since I believe in principle that goes ‘After a hardship comes relief.’
