    Hi Lenders,

Jane made contact with us regarding her loan. Unfortunately, there was a death in the family and she is working to repay hospital bills. She is determined to repay her loan and we are working with her to reschedule her payments. Thank you for your patience!

Hello lenders! I have briefly spoken with Jane today, and she was able to confirm that she is still very committed to her Zidisha lenders. After meeting her in mid February, Jane began making repayments again. She told me her business was closed all last week, as were the majority of Kenyan businesses, to monitor the election and safeguard against rioting/looting. While Kenya's last election was marked by violence, many things were done differently this time, and peace has prevailed so far. Jane assures me she'll continue repaying and thanks the Zidisha community.

Greetings lenders! My name is Neil DiMuccio, and I am a Client Relationship Manager with Zidisha in Kenya. I am currently visiting borrowers to learn more about them and support them with their Zidisha loans. It is my hope that this work will build bridges to better connection and understanding, and that Zidisha and its borrowers will increasingly grow, communicate, and support each other.

I was recently able to meet with Jane Nduhiu and meet her lovely family in Nakuru. Jane’s family had been living in Karunga, a small town some 12 kilometers northeast of Nakuru, but moved to the town for a job. Shortly after the move, Jane’s daughter Beth fell ill with TB, and required significant medical care. Because of this, Jane was unable to make payments to her Zidisha lenders.

At Zidisha, we believe in supporting Zidisha borrowers. This means maintaining a friendly and professional tone at all times. This is especially important for borrowers such as Jane, who find themselves in arrears due to financial emergency. One might expect these borrowers to be cautious, or even evasive in communicating with Zidisha, but this is very often not the case at all! In fact, they generally welcome us into their homes and businesses as warmly as anyone else (and in Kenya, people are exceptionally welcoming). From there, Zidisha staff give them the opportunity to explain their circumstances at their own level of comfort and safety. We do not believe that following the traditional path of being demanding or prying (practices that might be common in Western culture or other local microfinance operations) is conducive to a productive relationship. I think this process is laudable on both ends, and takes trust and empathy to a whole new level. Jane and I sat down for over an hour in this manner, discussing the options and details of her business, circumstances, and loan. Her daughter Beth was kind enough to translate what each party was saying.

While Jane’s business profits are still less than ideal, she does believe she can begin repaying, and is committed to her doing right by lenders. Let’s applaud and thank her for her commitment to her family, her business, and her loan! Best wishes in all your future endeavors, Jane!

Dear Lenders, Thank you for your patience while I have helped my daughter to recover from her illness.

As of today, I will begin making repayments ~1000 Kenyan Shillings per week, and it is my hope to get caught up and pay off the loan as is currently scheduled.

Thank you again for support, I look forward to a 3rd loan with Zidisha, and God Bless. -Beth and Jane Nduhiu

Thank you for the well wishes, and sorry for long time that it took to answer.

My name is Beth and I am typing on behalf of my mother, Jane. I am the daughter who fell sick last year, with TB, and was in need of operation.

For this, my mother needed to use money from loan for hospital fees and surgery.

I am happy to report that I am in good health and have fully recovered. Thank you again for the well wishes and God Bless.
