I was born in Busia in the western part of Kenya. I am the first born in a family of seven. I grew up and went to school in Busia. Being the first born in a family of seven has always been very challenging. My father passed on when I was in high school and that left my mother to take care of us. I was at times forced to skip class so that I could accompany her in her casual jobs so that we could get food on the table.
Having gone through this, I got the motivation to get into business so that I could support my family. After high school, I got employed as a cyber cafe assistant, a position that I held for two years. As I was working at the cyber, I saved [money] with a lot of discipline because I had developed the urge to open my own cyber cafe. After the two years of service, I had saved enough to help me buy five computers, with which I set up a small cyber cafe that has been growing gradually.
I'm married with two kids (twins) aged three.
I love watching football, swimming, and spending time with the less fortunate in society.
I started my cyber cafe in February 2013 with five computers. I offer internet services, typesetting and printing. Internet connectivity has over time become necessary in many day-to-day activities. This has pushed the demand for my services high, hence the need to increase my capacity in terms of computers in the cyber.
I have one assistant whom I pay 8,000 KES ($80 USD) per month. I pay rent of 4,000 KES ($40 USD). On average, I make a profit of 33,000 KES per month ($325 USD).
I distribute my earnings towards supporting my mum in paying school fees for my siblings, buying food and other necessities at home. I reserve some savings that I always use to improve my business.
Lenders, I am come for you to help me raise money I need for two computers in my cybercafe. I appreciate your work, for you helped me by [funding my] first loan and here again I come for to help me raise $410 for the two computers I need in my cyber.
