My name is Mercy Waithiegeni Njogu . I live in Bahati in Nakuru North District. I am also a mother and my daughter is in class eight and will sit for her national exam at the end of the year. I am looking forward to her joining high school in the near future. Most of my relatives live in Nyeri in central province.
I usually travel to Nyeri where my relatives live and buy bananas (both ripe and green) where they are cheap. I also buy water melon, sweet potatoes , and sometimes yams. I also buy ovacardos when they are out of season in Nakuru. All these commodities are transported by bus and i then resell them in Bahati. I take about 3 days to finish the items and have to travel back to Nyeri . my relatives sometimes buy for me and send them to me so that i do not have to travel persomnally and only concentrate in selling them. I send them money to buy the items through the mpesa services which is popular in Kenya and convenient. The profit that i make is not fixed but depend on the specific items that i bring. In a good month, i make a profit of ksh 20,000. I intend to expand my business so that i can be able to buy more items at once to reduce the number of times that i would have to travel. Also i would want to increase the varieties of items that i bring to expand my market value.
