I am Daniel Murigu Wanjohi Born in 1974 in Kenya. I work with a local NGO based in Nyandaura South District of Nyandarua County, Central Province. I live in Weru Town in Kinangop Just few metres from the main centre where i recently purchased a parcel of land and built the house i live in. A part from working with the mentioned NGO, I do have some other income generationg activities i.e. Poultry and Dairy farming. The two projects are fairly doing well, i would like to expand them to grater heights.
I do engage in poultry farming and Dairy farming, a venture that has great prospects. The performance of the two mentioned projects shows that it can be successful and this is the reason I want its growth. In the last six months, the income from the two ventures has been on the rise, with poultry farming I do keep traditional poutry also known as Kienyeji. Each egg cost Ksh 15. which is laid once in a day. Per week then is 15*7 = 105 per Bird. So ten of them are giving me Ksh 1,050 per week. This translates to approx Ksh 4200 per month. With this trend, I want to boost production particulary on the breeds and feeding as currently not all of them lay eggs on daily basis. I have two dairy cattle that I produce 30kg of milk per day. Each Kg goes for Ksh 30. Again this is also profitable venture with assured market. Its with this view that am requesting for a loan of Ksh. 200 000 from your organization so that I can fully implement the idea that I have. With the two projects, I have worked out my budget plus repayment requirements. Mainly I want to concentrate on poultry farming which is not involving and does not require much labour. My customers range from individuals, to other business people around like the ones operating hotels. With mik production, i do sell directly to KCC, a company that buy the same from farmers around. Payment is made on monthly basis. From the two projects, i am assured of about Ksh. 20 000 per month net income. i do however want to increase this to about a net income of Ksh 50 000 per month. This is possible since with increased production, i will be able to market my produce particulary the eggs to even other traders and supermarkets around. With increased milk production, i will be able to even take care of domestic market where many people around request for milk for domestic use. They pay on monthly basis and the prices are relatively high.
I am requesting this amount so that i can expand already existing poultry project and also increase the production and also ensure that i meet the demand from my customers and explore possibility of increasing the market. Currently i spend a lot on feeding since there is wastage as the feeding structures that i have, has led to wastage by the birds when feeding. I want to use Zidisha loan to have additional chicks that i will rear and purchase modern equipments that will enable their growth. I will raise the remaining amount from my personal savings and the income from my already existing project so as to make it a success. Kinangop is a cold place and not many households are willing venture into such business. I have already installed electricity in my home and am exploring possibility of using it particularly during cold season so as to ensure the chicks dont succumb to cold. With Ksh 30000 i will raise about Ksh 20,000 to buy hatcheries, feeding troughs, watering trough, feeds and labour. With this, i feel that i will have filled the gap that already exist as there are such ventures around. I will have an upper hand when marketing as many people re directed to me when in need of poultry and eggs. As we near the festive season poultry will be on high demand. This will be best for me because i will use this as an opportunity to expand my project and also market other by products like the eggs and droppings which are used as manure and cow feeds.
