About Me

I'm Joseph Chacha . A resident of Sakuri village in Migori county of Kenya. I was born and raised up in this very village by my widowed mother. My mother used to fetch firewood and excavate sand from nearby rivers to help pay fees and raise me up.
I went to Kebaroti Primary school and later joined Taranganya High School .My mum struggled and I had to drop for several years out of school since she couldn't raise fees ,but I went back and managed to sit O Level papers.
Unfortunately I lost my academic certificates as I went for an interview in Nairobi and only got them when the laws were changed to give duplicate certificates to those who had lost them during the 2007 post election violence in Kenya.I was deeply traumatized because of the loss of my documents.
However despite this great setback,I entered into farming of maize and tomatoes, I managed to save some little to keep on farming and built some two small iron sheet houses for my mum and I . With time I started selling dry maize in a store but I was only seasonal. I late saw a business opportunity in selling goats and sheep because the locals here like beef a lot. So I buy small young goats and sheep and fatten them using high value feed additives and other local green organic feeds and sell to local butcheries at a profit.
The love for meat and the unique initiation feasting every end year has provided a livelihood for my family and I . My children love schooling, one wants to be doctor ,the wants to be a teacher and the other wants to be pilot. All are in a local primary school and I pray that their love for education continues till their goals are achieved.
I love football and I sensitize the public on girl child education and environmental conservation. During my free time I train young boys and girls on football. We have a good girls team that went up to the county ball games in the secondary school section.

My Business

I sell fattened goats and sheep and also have two dairy cows that give milk for sale. The locals here like beef especially nyam chom as they call it ie roasted meat served with tomato salad and the famous maize meal ugali. The people here also like tea a lot and they use a lot of milk daily.
I started the business because it is cheap and local feeds are used and I had land that provided enough pastures for the livestock and the market is readily available. I use around 50kg of high value feed additives every week, 1 litre of acaricide and pay my casual helper. Generally it costs me around 25US dollars every week. Every day I sell five litres of milk at 0.8dollars each and each week I also sell at least 2 goats and a sheep. A good medium size goat goes for around 50 dollars while a sheep at 30 dollars. After sale on weekly basis ,I go to nearby livestock auction yards and buy young cheap animals for fattening and later reselling.
Part of what remains I pay fees, buy feeds and a few things for the family.

Loan Proposal

I will buy high value feed additives @ 0.8 US dollars this will increase the growth and weight addition to goats and sheep and improve milk production. I expect to highly and supply more milk in excess of what I do currently.
