About Me
My name is Daniel Otieno,I was born in Busia county.In our family we are 10 kids,two boys and 8 girls.My father was a teacher while my mother was a farmer.My father passed on while I was still young boy and left my mom to raise as single handed.
Though life was tough our mom raised as through farming,after completing my secondary education I went back home and started helping my mom.
I realized she was not utilizing the modern available farming technologies and therefore i decided to do modern farming and it paid off.
currently I have one wife and two kids they all want to be doctors in future.I hope and wish the make it in life.
My Business
I am a commercial farmer and i keep both livestock and grow horticulture in my 2 acre farm.I started with high value horticultral crops and have now advanced into dairy farming.
The demand for vegetables and dairy products (milk) is always high throughout the year.I make sure i increase my productivity during the dry season when vegetables and milk are scarce so as to maximize profits.
I choose this business because my mom was a farmer and so as i helped her out in the farm,i developed passion for farming,secondly farming was less capital intensive.
In a month I spend $150 for labor,and transport to the market .My profits are always between $250-350 in a month.
I use my profits to pay fees for my kids ,nephew and siblings.I believe education is power and so I do all i can to empower them.
Loan Proposal
I recently attended farmers congress organized by my county where we were thought on importance of value addition to our farm products. I realized that instead of selling raw milk ,I could sell yoghurt that would give me double income. I produce 30litre of milk in my farm and would use it for yoghurt production. Because of growing population,there is ready market for the product. Please support me so that I can buy a fridge for storage of milk and yoghurt.thank you
