My name is Roseline Laban. I am a kenyan. God blessed me with a small family that i love with all my heart. I am the only child and I come from a single parent family. My mother went back to live in the village after she retired since she was born and also raised there for most of her life. We have a potato farm in the village which I decided to use to my advantage and make a living out of it. I currently stay in kajiado and with time it is also where i hope to start a family and share my business with my children as well.
Since we have a farm at the village, whenever I go to visit my mother at the village, I travel back with two small sacks of potatoes which I sell to a local fast food restaurant which makes bhajias and fries. I currently only have enough man power at the farm to help me supply enough potatoes to one restaurant. I am able to earn atleast 2000-3000ksh per sack per every two weeks.
At the moment the only man power at the farm is my cousin and occassionally me when I go to visit at the village. Since my cousin is about to start college classes, I would hire someone to permanently help with the farming while both of us are unavailable. This will cost me 80$ as a start, I will also lease a small portion of my village neighbor's farm to add on to plant more potatoes at 120$. This is because although we have a farm it is actually a few meters large and it is also shared by my stepmother and her son to grow certain vegetables as well. It is not much but we make due with the small space we were given. 70$ will be used to add manure, tanks to store water and other tools and seedlings. I will use 30$ to help print some material and also market myself to other restaurants to help me increase market for the potatoes.
