My name is vincent okonda, 32. I was born in Kenya a place called Vihiga .I was raised by my late grandparents until i finished secondary school . I was lucky to join Chuka university and i did my degree in chemistry and graduated in 2017. I have a wife and 1 child, I love swimming and helping elderly people.
Things have been tough since then , getting a job has been a nightmare, I struggled even feeding myself.
I decided to locate to urban area to look for green pasture but still things were difficult.
one day i met with friend who introduced me to Button mushroom farming and i learnt from him.
last year on December 2023, I started button mushroom farming ,with a small capital of $400( approx. 45000ksh) which was a loan from my cousin.
Mushroom farming is a lucrative business but it require intensive capital to start. From my capital am only doing small scale with small profits just to feed my family and myself. I would wish to expand more on my business that why i need more financial help.
In mushroom farming , for a good start you require 200000ksh(approx. $1800). In a good harvest with this capital you can get 1000 - 1500 kg of mushroom and currently the price of mushroom in Kenya is about 600ksh per kg, total gross profits will be 600000ksh and the net profit will be 400000ksh. It take approximately 2.5 month from preparation to harvest.
The market for Mushroom in Kenya is high and Kenyans are getting to know, apart from red meat and white meat , mushroom is also good source of protein.
If you help me with the funds, i will buy extra 40 bails of wheat straw. This will increase my production by 60 to 90 kg of mushroom , hence increasing income.... I will be able to help others people too..
