My name Is Edward Orapu. I was born in a family of 10 kids . I am I the first born. My mum sells fish while my dad was a security guard though he lost his job. I went upto secondary school but did not joined higher learning insitututions due to lack of school fees.
After secondary school ,I went to capital city Nairobi where I looked for a white collar job. None was was forth coming and so i settled on construction work. The job was tough but i had to do it because without it i could not put food on the table. December come and everyone was moving up country for the christmas holidays and so I joined them. After the holidays I was to travel back to the city and had no fare!! That is when i decided to do some traditional leafy African vegetables to help me get fare. After three weeks my cow-peas was ready for the harvest,I was shocked when i reached the market ,I realized what i could make in three weeks was my entire earnings in the capital for 3months. I made a decision to remain in the village and try my hand in farming.
Our culture is bit diversified depending on the clan. but the most unique culture is Bakhayo day celebrated once a year. Its usually funny,it includes singing, dancing and playing drums. The occasion is blessed by community elders.
My son is only 9months old. I will work hard to give him the best in life.
I like watching soccer and meeting new people during my free time.
I provide green vegetables to the clients and customers. My vegetables always reach the market in fresh and I always observe hygiene and that has always given me a competitive edge.
Green vegetables are very important for both the low income earners and the high income earners as it is used either as full meal or supplement to meat and fish.
I choose these business because it gave me much more revenues compared to construction work I was doing in the capital city Nairobi.
I spend $50 on manure and seeds. On most occasions i provide labor myself and so it cuts the costs of production . My revenues are $200 in a month. I use my profits to expand my farm, through input purchase and leasing more land,Taking care of my young family and taking care of my siblings and parents.
Water is very critical for life of both plants and animals. I have always seen crops dry due to lack of water and that separates the successful farmers from the unsuccessful. I would wish to engage in non-rain fed agriculture and always supply my vegetables and the time of the year when it is scarce.these will give me a competitive edge and better revenues. I wish to request you dear lenders to finance me so that I am able to come up with a bore hole that will serve my farm.the cost involved is $350. I have made some servings for top up. I would really appreciate you support assistance and advise .thanks
Regards Orapu
