I am a weaver from Kisumu city. i was married and blessed with six children now. I was born in the late 90s, i received primary education at a primary school near Ugunja called Nyalego primary school. I lost my wife two years ago through a chronic disease, So i assumed the responsibility of taking care of my children alone and all of them are in school except my last born who hasn't started school. I started weaving baskets and mats long ago when my wife passed away before i was a fisher man. The unique thing in nyanza is the lake Victoria which is well known throughout Kenya.
I weave and create baskets and mats for business. I sell them to people who live around and to tourists. These products are important because we use them for storage in our houses. We can put clothes in the baskets as well as food stuffs and we can also put them in our houses as decoration. I take very long to make one complete item like two weeks of serious work. I sell a basket at about 40 us dollars for the big one, 30 us dollars for the middle one, 20 us dollars for the small one. I use the money to pay for my children's school fees and to provide all their needs. I make monthly savings that can help me later in life.
I need the loan that i am applying to buy weaving materials such as the needle worth 5 us dollars. And i want to put up a small stand structure where i can display my products for easy and fast sale making. This will cost me 20 us dollars which i will supplement with my savings. Having the advanced needle will enable me to weave more fast and sell more. This will enable me and my children to live more comfortable after paying back the loan.
