My name is Martin Kithinji Gitonga. I' m 31 years old. I joined primary school in 1991 and went through secondary and university level. I graduated with a diploma in cooperative management. While going to school, I used to help my parents with domestic activities. My parent practiced mixed farming and I helped in rearing cattle at home. I was a helpful to my parents in bringing food to the table. The cash crop that involved maize and tea helped us to pay school fees and other expenses. After completing the secondary school I joined a college and pursued a business course. In my career of business management, I did not succeed to secure a job even in the government or private sector. I opted to do manual job . My parents helped me to start the business that has thrived to a level of a mini retail shop and Mpesa. This is how I managed to start my own business and overcame all the odd to be a self employed and loving it. To grow my business is my first priority and to support my family is another.
My business is purely selling products like food stuffs like maize & wheat flour, Rice, Bread, Milk, e.t.c, hygienic products like soaps, pampers Tissue papers and many other general shop items. These goods are always on high since they are food stuffs like Maize floor is a stable food in my country making it an all time on demand. Others are supplement like rice wheat floor e.t.c.Life is about many things and hygiene goods become on demand. So I purely stock much of basic life needs that must be bought at any cost. I decided to choose this business simply because I am experienced businessman dealing with shop products and general goods. This is besides being a profession I love the job and it gives me a livelihood. My expenses are cost of buying the stock of almost every item that is fast moving for my daily customers, so cost of buying stock is one among others like rent electricity transport and security. My profit always goes towards reinvesting, meeting my family needs helping my parents and the needy and the locals.
I will first channel the money to food retail whereby I will buy rice, flour, sugar, tea leaves, omo, bar soaps and cooking fat. This commodities are some of the first moving products in my retail shop. Secondly, I will increase my Mpesa float to enable me reach more customers.
