I am 29 years old with a diploma certificate in Agriculture from Egerton University with a bias in pos harvesting techniques .After graduation I realized that majority of farmers in my area were struggling with how to store what they had harvested. This resulted in poor storage of grains and the rotting of grains leading to heavy losses incurred by the farmers.
This led to loss of profits and the farmers pouring the bad grains and consequently wasting their efforts. I decide to apply my skills and started an initiative in collaboration with local agricultural officers we hold bi-monthly meetings where I teach the farmers to properly store their produce so as to stop pests and their produce rotting. I teach them the skills and know-how of post harvesting techniques.
There has been tremendous improvement compared to yesteryears when farmers were frustrated with grain storage due to ignorance. Our main handicap has been acquiring of modern storage facilities since they are extremely expensive, we have tried soliciting the help of county government in vain. We decided to pool our little earnings as farmers with the object of buying modern storage facilities.
