I was born in the year 1991,joined my primary education in 1997 and then my secondary education in 2005 to 2009.My interest was in veterinary medicine but i did not attain the required grade so i decided to go for diploma in animal health and production in Mt Kenya University in the year 2010 to 2013.After college i went to practice in the field as a vet technician which earned me some money and due to my interest in farming i decided to practice pig production in 2014 July.Pork consumption in Nakuru county has been rapidly embraced and this boasts my business greatly.
I still practice as a vet technician and when i do not have any clinical cases i usually organize for extension services for farmers.
Currently i have 15 sows and 4 boars in my farm with 6 of them having a litter of 10,8,10,6,2,11 piglets respectively. When they reach the carcass weight i usually do a mass slaughter and sell them on my own at my home where i have a cafe.I can as well supply some in Nakuru town restaurants. As pork has became a delicacy to Nakuru residents the sell is very good .I usually pay a revenue for every pig i slaughter for Meat Inspection and a revenue for a business permit for my cafe.I as well incur transport costs and payment for my two employees who assist in feeding and other labor required.
The profit i make from the sell i save for expanding my business and achieve my dream which is feeding the whole of Nakuru County and avoid short of supply.Am as well saving for my degree course which i want to register for part-time next year May.I as well use some for my upkeep and support for my family where by my two siblings are in college.
My piggery unit currently stocks a maximum number of 20 pigs. I would like to expand it in order to accommodate the piglets which will be weaned very soon. It needs 24 dollars for 3 bags of cement 48 dollars for timber which i will use for partitioning and 30 dollars for two tonnes of sand. Since i have the rest of the materials needed i believe if offered this loan i will have no problem weaning my pigs. This will facilitate finishing hence quality and weight of the carcass will increase respectively thus a good sell.
