My name is Mary Ireri,I went to Kerwa primary school, due to financial constraints I was not able to proceed with my Secondary education.
After getting married, my husband got a job in Nairobi, but his pay was not enough to sustain our young family. That’s when I decided to start my on commercial farm a few years later. I mainly grow cereals and other major staple foodstuff in Kenya that I supply to our local shopping center (Kiritiri) and also to the local primary schools around my neighborhood. I keep chicken in my farm and supply eggs and meat to my customers within the locality.
I currently have four children, one girl and three boys. During my free time, I usually attend church fellowships or merry-go round women groups.
My commercial farm produces fresh high quality cereals like beans, maize, potatoes, cow peas, etc. The poultry type I keep is Kienyeji Chicken from KARI (Kenya Agricultural Research Institute) that is more resistant to diseases and adverse weather conditions. I usually ensure my clients get goods in fresh condition.
I stay in densely populated area, and most of the population are non farmers this gives me a competitive edge against my competitors. I sell Kienyeji eggs at very good prices since they have higher demand than the normal eggs.
In a good month I spend $60 on pesticides and general farm maintenance, and $30 for my chicken veterinary. My revenues in a good month are about $300-$400, I make profits of $200 in a good month.
I use my profits to pay school fees for my kids and the rest to expand my business.
Dear lenders, I would wish to request for a $100 loan so that I can expand my chicken population. The demand for Kienyeji eggs is too high for me to satisfy as not many have realized the crazy demand. If I increase the number by at least 30%, I am sure my revenue will increase double fold. With your support, I believe I can achieve my dreams. Thank you and God bless you.
