My names are Esther W. Gichuki being borne in Nyeri County. I was borne in a family of ten, eight girls and two boys being the seventh borne. I started my education at an age of 5 years at Ngoru nursery school in Muhoyas Location and thereafter i joined primary school called Ngoru primary school.
Thereafter we re-located to Nyandarua County where I went on with my education at Mathingira Primary in the same county.
After my primary education i joined Leshau secondary where I sat for my K.C.S.E exams in the year 1987.
Afterwards in 1989 i did a secretarial course, that is book keeping. After all i got a job in the Laikipia Campus in farm office to keep records.
In the same year (1989) i got married to Charles Gichuki and blessed with three children, two girls and one boy.
After marriage we re-located to Nakuru County where we are settled till now.
I quieted employment to self-employment business due to the following reasons:-
(1) Time management
(2) Distance - since it seems to be very far for me to travel to and fro every day
(3) Expenditure
Currently am a business woman dealing curios located at Nakuru town.
My business is located along Kenyatta Avenue opposite Post Office, Stall No. 47.
I deal with curvings, Maasai brackets, picture frames, wall hangings, leather saddles, leather items, women kikois, women kangas, key-rings, beaded items, soft stones, bangles and other Africa culture wears.
Since I deal with original African culture goods being made by Africans and materials being Africans, the demand is very high from both local and international people.
I deal with non-expiry good and the location is good and favourable, that makes my business profitable since i manage it myself and also i came up with some of the goods like bead-working.
Since most of the time I deal with soft stone goods, they sometime break while handling and during transport. This cost me an extra cost to repair them.
Another challenge that i face bis lack of enough stock due to lack of capital.
Through my business i've been able to manage by family, add stock to my business and also save for my future reference.
My request to Zidisha is to assist me to be able to run my business smoothly and create our nation too.
Thanks in advance and be blessed for your continued work.
Dear Sir or Madam, First, I would like to ask for your apologies for my late response in mailing and answering the text message that you had texted me. When I get the loan I plan to expand my curio shop by adding more stock of properties which are on demand. Again will be able to hire another curio shop and be able to employ another person on behalf of that curio shop whereby it depends with capital that you have and with Zidisha on my side, I know I will make it!. My happiness is a have a smooth running business. Yours Faithfully, Esther Gichuki.
