About Me

Hagan Golo is my name born on 11th April, 1980. I am 41 years old and been the last among eight siblings. I was born in Dambai a farming and fishing community along the Volta lake. At age six I suffered polio attack and therefore had been with disability on one leg till today.

Even with my disability and being the last with almost my aged parent, I supported my parent in farming and fishing. I trek long distance with the use of crutches to have formal education. Against all the odds I was able to complete basic education and passed Basic Education Certificate Exams successfully. Since most of Secondary schools within the area lack facilities for kids with disability, I stayed home for two years without going to Secondary or Technical School. The fear for my parent was that I can’t cope with secondary school alone in the boarding house where washrooms, classrooms etc, were not disability friendly.

After staying home for two years, I managed to enter Technical and Vocational School to go and learn skills. My good academic performance and hard work earned me a school prefect at form two second term. In my third (final) year and in my final exams, I excel to the admiration of the school authorities. I successfully gained admission into Ghana Technology University studying Telecommunication Engineering.

Currently, with the support from the Zidisha lenders, I have successfully completed my 1st degree in telecommunication engineering. It’s my hope and prayer that I will continue with my 2nd degree very soon.

My Business

Currently, I have successfully completed my first degree in Telecommunication engineering, and fully employed with Comsys Ghana Limited. Comsys is telecoms & ICT solutions company offering businesses in Africa aspiring in using technology as a tool and also now earning a regular income each month.

I’m planning to start my masters in Telecommunication engineering and possibly do my PhD one day, in areas such using my knowledge and skills to the benefit of my family, my community, the disability community and my nation at large.

With this assistance from Zidisha, finances are no more headaches to me any longer and I can get more as I plan to settle down and work with practice on problem solving engineering practical that can add more value to myself and for my people. I believe strongly that with my creativity, innovations and skills, I can use engineering background to liberate my community from the shackles of poverty, and then make a meaningful living for my people for the years to come.
I have a strong conviction that by the time I complete my study at the university; I will come out with some work using Science, Technology and Innovation for Poverty Reduction in my community and beyond.

It’s also my plan to assist expand the study of science and engineering related courses in other schools where there is always fear for engineering related courses. It's my hope that if my loan is successful with Zidisha and I am able to complete my course, I would make science and engineering study priority in rural and community schools believing that Science, Technology and Innovation can help fight Poverty.

Loan Proposal

I intend to use the loan to pay for my hostel fees, part of my school fees, pay for my transportation, help with feeding, and also buy study materials, a laptop computer
and pay for Internet service.

1. Payment of monthly hostel fees @ $360
2. Part payment of school fees for the semester @ $650
3. Buying textbooks for academic work @ $230
4.Transportation for the next four months @ $220
5. Partial cost of feeding for the semester @ $250
6. Cost for Internet service for the semester @ $100
7. Buying a laptop computer @ $250

In all, I need a loan of $2,000(+/-), to supplement the money I earn at my part-time job,
to help cover these costs for the semester.

Income Source

Risk and Revenue Information: I currently work with Comsys Ghana Limited, on a
part-time basis, for which I'm earning regular income and from which I can repay my loan without difficulties. Comsys Ghana Limited is a fully owned Ghanaian telecom and ICT solutions company. It is ISO-certified, since 2011, by the British Standard Institute (BSI) and has maintained all certifications, to date, for ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 20000:2011. In the past seven (7) years, it has been adjudged the best (number-one) enterprise-solutions provider in Ghana, consecutively, as well as the best Internet-service provider (ISP) for 3 years. It also was adjudged the best ICT Company in Ghana in 2019 at the Ghana Telecom & Technology Awards (GTTA).
