Hello My name is Veronica Kithome a mother of two , 14 year old and 8 month old sons, I am engaged to be married. I currently live in Kibera where I grew up in a family of eight, parents and six siblings altogether. Life was hard to grow up in the poorest part of Nairobi city but hard work and resilience made me take my studies seriously and has helped me realize some of my dreams, I have studied commerce & business management. I love cooking it is my passion and my hobby which I have turned into a business, This happened by way of chance since everyone used to comment on my cooking skills and tasty food, slowly a friend asked me to cook for her small party and by word of mouth I have been fortunate to host small functions.
I believe I inspire my children to work hard and my first born is a keen footballer and a great artist with a knack for numbers, I will push him to be an architect but for now I am letting him discover himself and his passions.
I provide catering services with the aim of event hosting. These services are key especially in my community where gatherings are often in plenty especially to celebrate birthdays, weddings, graduations and family events etc.
I naturally fell into this business because of my passion for cooking which is a hobby and because of the demand in my community as we go in the modern era whereby people are too busy to cook for them selves and would rather outside catering.
For a gathering of 50 people, I would charge KES 600 a plate inclusive of a drink
Revenue - 30,000
Expenses
Transport - 2,000
Food stuff and soft drinks- 12,000
labor 3 employees - 3,000 for the day
licenses and tax - 5000
Total - 22,000
Profit - 7,000
Profits are used to reinvest back into the business by adding new equipment, paying of school fees to my elder child who is in high school and having a savings scheme for future use.
The funds will be used to buy cooking pots to add to my collection, which cost per piece is $80
I would need 5 pieces 5*80 = $400
And plastic event chairs at $6 per piece
I would need 100 pieces 100*6= $600
This would add to my revenue tremendously as I would hire out the chairs as an extra source of income to compliment my business.
If I hire out a chair at $0.15 per day, 100 chairs would be 100*0.15= $15 per day on any event
Expense for transportaion is $3
Profit - $12
