About Me

Hallo Zidisha Team,

I'm an entrepreneur working on dairy and poultry farming. I started of with poultry farming specifically to raise my living standard and care for my ailing mother who is now disabled after a road accident.

I worked hard in the poultry farmer and through Zidisha, I was able to rear over 300 chicken for sale of meat and eggs.

This venture really improved my standard of living and was also care for my mother.

My ultimate goal was to venture into dairy farming of which I now have 4 milkers with a production of 65 litres a day. This was possible after I sold a parcel of land I had acquired years ago. I practice zero grazing so I have to buy fodder and water for the cows. They are now all incalf and start calving down late July consecutively.

I thank zidisha Team for enabling me get this far especially when I needed funds for purchasing feeds, poultry equipment and even buying the chicks.

I look forward to your help whenever I need it.

Thank you.

My Business

My business currently is mainly dairy farming. I have 4 milkers (Holstein Fresian cows) with an average production of 65 ltrs currently. They are almost calving down (due) starting end July this year.

The milk sales are at us$. 50 wholesale and. 60 per ltr retail . The milk is sold to households, hotel at the highway of Nairobi/Nakuru and a local shop.

The sales are used to purchase feeds (hay), supplements and minerals and pay my farm help. Any surplus goes to my house expenses and mums meds.

I sold all my chicken and will embark on it in August. I have had good experience with rearing chicken and I'm now able to manage a poultry farm better than when I started. I expect to make better profits in the next season.

Loan Proposal

The loan will be used to construct a new cowshed that can support 6 cows and 4 calves. The current one is coming now in a bad state especially the floor which is very uncomfortable for the cows and difficult to come clean.
Funds will go towards buying new poles at a cost of US $ 103, cement, hard core, ballast at a cost of US$ 350, off cuts for the wall US$ 50, iron sheets for roofing US$ 100, wood for partitions and support US$ 80 and labor US$ 80.

Income Source

My business involves daily consumption of milk which is a basic requirement in every household.

I also sell chicken and eggs which give an additional income.

      Hallo Josh,
Thank you so much for your support. Yes they did calve down to 3 heifers and one bull (Jackie, Fridah, Kate and Jelani). We name them after family members. However, Fridah died at 2 months ago from East Coast Fever. It was very sudden we didn't even realize she had it. She was a strong cow.
Jelani the bull was given at 3 months. It's quite expensive for me to maintain a bull so we had to dispose her.
I have problems uploading photos and when I succeed they replace the profile photo.
      However I still keep trying.

Catherine, thanks a lot for the photos! I suppose they each have unique markings that let you identify them. All the best for Jackie and Kate :-)

I'm currently at my rural home and completely cut off from traveling back to my town because of a bridge that was washed away by the floods. However it's being repaired and hopefully it will be done soon. Help in the rural home takes time.
I will catch up on my repayments as soon as I get back to my farm without fail.

    Dear Lenders,
I am very grateful for the previous loan granted which I used to add on to the funds that I had saved for a long time to purchase a 10,000 litres water tank.
This came in handy during this rainy season as I'm able to harvest rain water for my livestock.
Water for the livestock is a big challenge because it eats into the profit gained. The tank will store water that will last for at least 2 months after the rainy season.
I'm still hoping to add at least another 2 in the course of the year.
This is a good start for to a sustainable water solution.
Thank you for making it possible within the shortest time possible.

    Dear Lenders,
From the proceeds of the funds lent, my dairy farm has really grown organically. Yes, there have been challenges especially the foot and mouth desease, expensive feeds during the drought season but I was able to mitigate though I was forced to slow down on the repayment installments.
However, I am very grateful to my lenders for their faith in me.
    God bless them all.
    Regards.
    Catherine.
