I grew up as a total orphan who struggled through life to make it this far. I remember, while in high school, I used to take casual jobs to take care of my needs, including paying my school fees. Being third born and with the other two elder siblings were in school as well, there was no one else left to help. The church remained the only applicable place for solace in my life. He was so gracious that through my struggles, He let me progress: today I have two degrees and I am pushing on with my PhD.
I like business so much since it supplements quite a lot in my family and it enables me stretch out to meet other people's needs, including offering support to the church. I am employed by the government, but I use my extra time in farming and business. I currently keep 75 chickens (croilers) and now wish to do agribusiness. I want to take advantage of people harvesting and purchase maize at low prices now, and dispose next year when prices will have escalated. I have several bags of maize harvested from my farm and still drying. This maize will be stored for food and purchased more for sale.
I bought vegetable seeds for commercial basis: among them, sugar-loaf, carrots, onions, tomatoes, spinach, and pepper. I intend to take my farming to the next level, subject to finding.
My income comes from employment and business. I am using this income to take care of my children and my two foster children. I have plans of taking two children (orphans) in January 2018 to Shibanga Secondary School, a school in my village which I hope I can afford from the income gotten from the farming that I am doing. The projected fees for the two are Ksh. 48,000 (USD $462).
As a way of giving back to the community, I am also a strong member of my church (Anglican Church of Kenya - Butere Diocese) and a senior official; I serve as a Synod member and patron to the Board of Trustees, Shibanga parish. I will take part of my surplus to church for blessings and for the support of the people of God.
I intend to spend the money that will be disbursed to me for commercial farming. This farming will be besides the retail shop that is already operating. I already leased three acres of land and now want to concentrate on farm inputs that will see me have a bumper harvest. The harvest will eventually be sold at some point to be able to continue with farming, maybe into large scale then.
I will purchase fertilizer( 4 bags) @ a total of 79.2 Dollars and would have wished to purchase seeds from this money but because of the deposit of Ksh.10,000 i will purchase seeds from the shop profits.
