My name is Boniface i am 45 years old, married and has three children. I completed my undergraduate degree in 2003 in Education and currently teaching in a secondary school. I have a farm in Karatina town which is approximately 0 .721 of an acre. part of it is planted with 30 avocado harsh trees which are on their second year of harvest i.e 4 years old trees and 100 coffee mature coffee bushes. I also have two semi permanent houses that can rear 2,000 broiler chicken. In January 2020, i had a successful chicken business where i had reared 2,000 broilers and it was run down by the covid-19 pandemic leaving me at zero.
I would like to be funded 1000 birds broiler project and one green house project.
BROILER PROJECT
The following are the requirements to start the project
1. 1000 broiler chicks @ 100 = 100,000
2. 10 bags of starter mash @ 4,500 = 45,000
3. 10 bags of growers mash @ 4,400 = 44,000
4. 60 bags of finisher pellets @ 4,100 = 246,000
5. source of heat(electricity/gas/charcoal) = 20,000
6. Incidentals = 5,000
TOTAL = 440,000
RETURNS
Currently the price per Kilogram of broiler varies between Ksh. 300 to Ksh. 350 (mid - 330)
Expected mortality is 5% and hence the expected birds to maturity is 950.
Each bird is expected to feed on 4 kilograms of feeds to maturity and have an average weight of 1.8 kilograms.
Hence the expected turnover is 950 * 1.8 kilograms * 330 = 564, 300
950 chicken ovals = 25, 000(takes care of transport and
slaughtering labor)
EXPECTED RETURNS = 564,300 - 440,000 = 124,300
This is expected income after 42 days and hence will have a recurrent income for the year for 8 months and therefore the expected annual profit is 124,300 *8 = 994, 400
Also the manure generated by the broiler project will be used to increase yields in the coffee and HASS Avocado projects.
THE GREEN HOUSE PROJECT
This is the cost analysis of the green house project
1. cost of a (8 * 15)mtrs with 450- 500 plants capacity( yellow/red capsicum or tomatoes) = ksh. 165,000
2. 500 Hybrid seedlings @ ksh. 15 = ksh. 7,500
3. Expatriate fee per visit @ 1,000 for 3 visits = ksh. 3,000
4. fertilizer and chemicals = ksh. 15,000
5. labour = ksh. 9,500
TOTAL = KSH. 200,000
At 450 plants yielding a minimum of 15 kg - 20 kg with a low market rate of ksh. 50 per kilogram,
the yields will be kshs. 337,500 and ksh. 450,000 respectively.
I hope that both projects are given priority as they are highly profitable.
This will help me purchase top dressing fertilizer for the 30 avocado hass trees and 100 coffee bushes at a cost of Kes. 6,500. This will allow for fruits expansion and also increase fruits shelf life.
This will increase my income because i will increase the yields that i will get and also provide food to the community and also offer employment to the community.
The expected income from the avocado tree is 100 fruits per tree @ 10 per fruit and a total of 30 trees =ksh. 30,000
Coffee bushes 100 trees @ 5kg per tree for Ksh. 80 per kg = Kes. 40,000
A total of Kes 70,000 for both ventures and a 60% profitability hence ksh. 42,000
