I am a proud father of three kids the eldest having joined secondary school this year. He performed very well in National Primary Examinations and secured himself a place in National school-the best in the country.
I come from a humble background, the 3rd born in a family of 6 children. Our dad never took us to College because of financial constraints. I am a self starter and determined individual and so I managed to do some casual jobs and some hawking business around town and took myself to college where I pursued my Certificate in Sales & Marketing, did a Diploma in the same field and was pursuing my Bachelors in Business Administration when I couldn't afford the fee for myself and my kids at the same time.
So I had to dropout and concentrate in paying for my kids because my eldest son says he wants to pursue medicine while my 2nd born son wants to be a pilot. My last born is 5 yrs old and now in baby class.
I am an outgoing person, I like meeting and making new friends.
I do Instant photography-which means I take someone a photo and produces it within minutes(approx 2-5 mins) and they pay instantly. One photo 4x6 costs averagely USD 0.6
I am stationed in recreational parks where people go to have some rest during daytime. My biggest clientele are couples who frequent parks/gardens for recreational purposes. I approach them and request if they want a photo. Most of them agree and so within 2 minutes of taking them a photo, I print it and bring them the hard copy. In Kenya, as it is in most developing countries, people don't have cameras or tablets or handsets that have cameras so an instant photo is but like a miracle.
I chose this kind of business because of its liquidity ratio...you get returns immediately and also because I love photography. In high school for example, I was the school photographer. My uncle would lend me his camera, I would take students photos and then bring them hard copies when schools reopened the following term.
I basically use profits from my business to pay fees for my kids and as well re-invest into the business. I am planning to buy a new Epson printer because the one I have is old and prone to periodic breakdowns and also buy a new professional digital camera so that I can take my business to the next level
I am planning to buy a new Epson printer mashine with its accessories which include a 12V battery, an inverter (to covert DC to AC) and photopaper and ink so that I can now have two stations. Besides, the new mashine will be more reliable and will be devoid of periodic breakdowns. My old mashine breaks down too often hence regular interruptions which are costly both in loss of business and repair costs.
