My name is Violet juma. I am the last first born in family of 5. I went to Alupe primary school where I sat for for my primary school certificate.I was admitted to Kolanya girls secondary school, but had to drop at form 3 due to lack of school fees. I went back home worked as a house help for my neighbor who later offered to pay for my school fees. I went to back to school and completed well,I passed well and expecting to join tertiary institution soon so as to further my education.
I keep poultry and do horticulture farming to save for my school fees. currently I have 30 local poultry and 0.5 acres kale's farm.
I come from the luhya community ,we hold the bakhayo cultural day once a year during this time we do traditional dance and singing, there is cock fighting ,it is always enjoyable.
I like watching soccer and playing netball during my free time.I also teach literature in the nearby school during my free time since they dont have a teacher .I am also a seasonal blogger.
I keep poultry mainly for eggs and meat and grow horticultural crops for sale to the nearby day school . I also sale my products to the neighbors .
Local eggs are very nutritious and most people prefer them, they are also more expensive and the demand is high. My kale's are always in demand and rarely do I supply my market sufficiently, the demand far outweighs supply.
I chose this business because it required less start up capital and the two ventures supplement each other making it cheaper to run i.e I use kale's to feed my poultry and the poultry provides manure for my crops.
In a moonth I spend between $30-$50 on transport ,labour and equipments. in a good month my revenues are $250.
A big portion of my revenues goes to school fees for my siblings ,I value eduction and do my best to keep them in school. I save for my college fees and take care of my families general expenses .
Dear sir/madam
I am Violet Juma, a small scale farmer, appealing for your support to finance the purchase of a bicycle for supplying eggs. I collect 30 eggs a day and supply them to my clients on foot because ,I can not afford fare to town and if I have to then it eats into my profits. A bicycle will save me the agony of walking long distances to supply my clients. The current market rates are $140 , I will add $40 from my savings to accomplish this mission. Your contribution is highly regarded and appreciated. Thanks so much.
