INTRODUCTION
I am a married woman with one child in primary school, class 8. I went to school and finished my secondary education in 4th form. I did not go to college due to lack of fees. My challenge was how to start life because I did not have any income.
I decided to begin some small business; after having worked casually and saved some money, I took a small loan and began a business next to where I was staying in Huruma. Amazingly, GOD blessed my business and it grew very fast. I bought a plot next to where I was staying so that I could maintain my customers.
My business is 7 years old now. It has helped me to support my family and meet the needs. Even my relatives go to school, especially my sisters. It was 2 days ago when I learnt about Zidisha and I was given an invitation. Hence, I decided to get the web and apply, because my Facebook was just for friends linking, but now it will help me get a loan.
My hobbies include listening to gospel music. I am a flower gardener and I like doing it when I am free. Adding value to nature is my joy.
My Business Proposal
My business is a shop that deals with household items like sugar, fat, flour, soaps, salt, etc. My customers are the residents of Huruma Estate. They have known me for many years, so they have confidence in my business. My customers therefore trust me and I have a lot of favor.
My main source of goods is Nakuru. I buy them from the wholesale, then I come to retail. My daily sales are 1500/= profit after deductions of expenditures. My monthly income therefore is 45000/=after deductions. My shop is well-stocked. I have a vision of beginning a supermarket by next year.
My challenges are that sometimes my customers take goods and they don't pay in time. My revenue in terms of costs are license, transport tax, paying the watchman my monthly restocking the shop.
I would like to add M-Pesa to my business so that it can boost my business. My next loan I will use to buy float of M-Pesa to assist me in getting higher income in my business. Most of my neighbors in my estate have to walk long distances to go and get M-Pesa services. I will have a very big advantage because I don't have a competitor. Since the demand is very high, I will be able to repay my loan better. That means per month I will be able to add 7000/= which means 80 US dollars on my current rate. My business then will increase by adding more interest to my business, hence my living standard will improve.
Currently, my business is doing very well, because the last loan I got I used to add stock. This has increased the number of customers to my shop, hence my sales are good. I want to add value to my shop. I will use the money (20,000 kenya money, which is 250 US dollars) to buy float on the phone and 5000ksh, which is 62 US dollars, to purchase the M-Pesa kit. This will increase my daily sales by 70%.
